Bon Bon Vivant is an Indie-Gypsy/New Orleans band playing original bawdy gypsy swing, dark ballads and uptempo indie rock/dance music. Front-woman Abigail Cosio's songwriting is as fierce as it is heartbreaking, often compared to Amy Winehouse, Melody Gardot and Florence and the Machine. BBV pays homage to the New Orleans music tradition while infusing an indie/punk edge, attracting both swing dancers and indie-rock concert goers alike.
Bon Bon Vivant can now be seen playing regularly at clubs all over New Orleans, and were featured at the French Quarter Festival, New Orleans Film Fest and the Creole Tomato Fest this year. BBV currently tours from Louisiana to the West Coast, playing storied venues like Clifton's and the Hotel Cafe (Los Angeles), as well as the Gatsby and The Rattle Inn during the Pecan Street Festival (Austin).
Bon Bon Vivant is partnering with the New Orleans Jazz Museum’s record label, Gallatin Street Records, with a recorded live performance at the museum. Selections from the band’s album Paint & Pageantry were showcased; a cover of the classic “Shout Sister Shout,” famously sung by the Boswell Sisters, a gypsy jazz favorite “Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen,” and many original songs were featured.
The first single off the album is “The Jazz Axe Man of New Orleans,” inspired by the true story of the city’s most notorious serial killer. All the tracks resemble a thoughtful storyline: in “Gone Gone Gone,” a woman saves her man from being shanghaied by murdering his abductor, and in “Saints and Sinners,” God and the Devil mull over the fact that man has abandoned them as they converse at a New Orleans bar.
Bon Bon Vivant is a Indie-Gypsy/New Orleans Jazz-band. Playing original gypsy jazz, dark ballads and rowdy uptempo swing/dance music. The band is available for festivals, theatre/venue performances, and private events.
